Some of our members may have noticed recently a drastic change in the amount of essays and papers on the site. This is due to the fact that CheatHouse has purchased another essay site in an effort to provide you with more options to help you with your assignments.

These new essays have been reviewed and put through checks for plagiarism before being separated into categories and made available to you.

New Citation Feature on CheatHouse2007-03-07 11:54:30

We have been exploring different ways to help all of you cite your essays. As many of you would have noticed upon submitting essays, we have implemented measures to ensure that the essays submitted to CheatHouse can all have references.

In light of our efforts to help all of our users cite their references, not just on the site but in all their assignments, we have added a new “Cite This Essay” link at the end of all papers. Once you click on it, you will be shown six different formats, including APA and MLA, to demonstrate how you can cite the essay that you are viewing.

We would also like to take the opportunity to inform you that we have fixed the bug that had been causing some of the essay pages to become very wide and, therefore, a bit tedious to read.

As we continue to make adjustments, not only to improve your user experience, but also to help you improve the credibility of your academic assignments, please feel free to contact us with any suggestions or comments that you may have.

We do look forward to hearing from you.

Best Regards,

College Bans use of Wikipedia as Source2007-02-15 10:45:10

History students at the Middlebury College in Vermont are no longer allowed to cite Wikipedia as one of their sources when handing in assignments.

The reason for this is that the school has adopted a new policy, which does not recognize the site as a credible source for information. According to one of the professors, it is a good place to begin your research, however, it should not end there.

Students should make use of the citations and references included in Wikipedia to complete their work, and use as references.

If your college or university is restrictive about using websites as sources, may we suggest to all of our users that adopting a similar approach to CheatHouse may be a good way to get your assignments done. Being a source of quick information for many of the topics that you may need, why not try taking a look at the sources upon which the authors of the essays posted on the site, have based their information and their views.

This can be excellent in terms of learning more on the topic being sought after, and it can also add value and creditability to your own work.

We want to take the opportunity to remind our users to add your references when submitting your own essays to the site. This way, while you learn from others’ work, they can also learn more from you.

New System For Rating Essays2006-11-24 09:32:19

As a few members have asked, and you would notice, the smiley faces that were once used for rating the essays are no longer on the site.

We now have a new system for rating the essays that can be seen in its place. This new system shows you the number, as well as the percentage of users that have found the essay useful to them.

This is just one of many efforts that CheatHouse is undertaking in the continued process of improving the user experience and the quality of the site for all our users.

To rate essays within this model, you can scroll down to the end of the essay page and give your answer to the question “Was this essay useful to you?” to let your colleagues know what you thought of the essay.

Please feel free to go into the “Help” menu and send us feedback on any changes that may occur on the site.

The Value of a good nap2006-10-04 04:41:58

Naps have been found to help learning. They are said to be useful when committing anything to memory.

Matthew Tucker at The City University of New York has discovered the value of a nap for memorizing information. Upon running an experiment in which volunteers had two opportunities to take a test after memorizing some pairs of words, it was found that the ones who took a nap before their second attempt scored up to 15% higher than in their first.

Previous studies have shown that REM sleep has been useful for action learning. In this breakthrough discovery, it has been found that even without REM, sleep can golden for effective learning.

New CheatHouse logo and mascot2006-08-07 11:17:23

We are happy and proud to announce the release of our new logo and mascot!

Throughout the years CheatHouse has enjoyed a great deal of success, however, as can be imagined, we have also received a lot of negative feedback regarding our previous logo.

Our decision to change our logo and mascot to something more friendly came about from an ethical analysis of our business undertaken by a 3rd party ethical consultant. We concluded that we required an image that reflected our true intentions regarding education on the net and our responsibility not to condone plagiarism.

We hope you enjoy the new logo! Special thanks go to Esteban Pinilla from Anticorp Design responsible for the logo redesign. On special dates, expect to see the mascot "dressed" accordingly :)

We would appreciate any feedback about the new logo at this email

Take care,
- Maximo

University expels cheater scan2006-03-10 18:23:59

From the ChronicleHerald.ca
the original article can be found here

By RICK CONRAD Education Reporter

Mount Saint Vincent University has turned off Turnitin.com.

In a landmark decision, the Halifax school has banned the popular plagiarism-detection software used by hundreds of universities around the world.

Concerned about privacy and intellectual property rights, the Mount’s student union has worked since September to convince administrators to get rid of the service, which only a few professors began to use this year.

At a meeting of the university’s senate Monday evening, the students secured a prohibition they say is the first of its kind in Canada.

"It’s an absolute win for us, and I’m thrilled that our senate is willing to recognize the issues that students have raised," student union president Chantal Brushett, one of four student members of the university’s senate, said Tuesday in an interview.

"I think it really sets a precedent for other universities in the country and I really hope they follow the Mount’s great example."

Don’t expect the province’s largest university to do that. Dalhousie University has used Turnitin.com since August 2002 and has no plans to turf it, Phil O’Hara, Dal’s assistant director of academic computing, said Tuesday.

"It’s sad to hear that the Mount has made this decision," he said. "Who knows what the future might hold at Dalhousie? But I don’t think we would want to make the same decision."

Turnitin.com is an Internet-based subscription service that professors and others use to root out whether students’ papers contain material copped from other sources without giving proper credit. It maintains a database of millions of essays and compares submitted papers not only against those but also against websites and other published works.

It’s recognized as a leader in helping keep students, academics, and sometimes journalists, honest.

But many student groups believe that using a service like Turnitin is too punitive and automatically presumes guilt. Studies have shown that about 15 per cent of university students cheat regularly.

"Everyone has the right to learn in an environment that is free of guilt presumption and fear, and Turnitin.com does exactly what it shouldn’t be doing in a higher educational environment," Ms. Brushett said. "It creates a culture of fear, it creates a culture of guilt and to me, that hinders some people from pursuing higher education and doing it with an open mind."

She said the student union was also concerned that the U.S.-based service could be subject to searches under the far-reaching Patriot Act. Students were also worried about intellectual property rights.

Relying on recommendations from a joint faculty-student committee, the Mount voted to ban the service "and any other plagiarism detection software that requires that students’ work become part of an external database where other parties might have access to it."

The ban takes effect in May and will be reviewed in three years.

A university spokeswoman said the university was "neither for nor against" using the software but responded to the overwhelming opposition on campus.

Still, Robyn McIsaac said, the Mount takes academic integrity seriously and has stringent policies to prevent plagiarism.

The Dal student union plans to ask administrators to allow students to opt out of the service. President Ezra Edelstein said his members share some of the concerns of Mount students and are also troubled about privacy and copyright issues.

Mr. O’Hara says he understands fears about the U.S. Patriot Act, but the service has a privacy policy. Because it’s a subscription-only service, even subscribers are limited in what they can see, he said.

"The opt-out, that’s just going to feed into people’s hands that . . . have been cheating their way through their education."

But professors also have a responsibility to get to know their students and to do their own homework to suss out the cheaters, Ms. Brushett said.

"We feel that Turnitin.com is a back-end approach. We need to promote academic integrity, we need to teach students what is plagiarism, what you should do, what you shouldn’t do and have more personalized ways of checking for plagiarism.

"I don’t think Turnitin.com is a necessary tool when it comes to teaching students."

Teacher told to stop teaching creationism2005-06-12 03:40:19

ROANOKE, Virginia (AP) -- For 15 years, in defiance of a Supreme Court ruling, Larry Booher taught creationism in his high school biology class. He even compiled a textbook of sorts and passed out copies in three-ring binders.

The school superintendent didn't know what was going on. Neither did the school board president. Then, they got an anonymous tip.

Science: Too Much Homework Can Be Counterproductive2005-06-01 16:40:37

An interesting study made by to two Penn State researchers shows that increases in homework may actually hinder educational achievement (Coral Cache) instead of improving it.

The researchers analyzed a large amount of data collected by the Third International Study of Mathematics and Sciences (TIMSS) in 1994 from schools in 41 nations across the fourth, eighth and 12th grades. For some analyses, they used data from an identical study carried out in '99. From the article: An unintended consequence may be that those children who need extra work and drill the most are the ones least likely to get it.

Increasing homework loads is likely to aggravate tensions within the family, thereby generating more inequality and eroding the quality of overall education.

Website latency issues resolved2004-03-22 20:01:56

As some of you may have noticed today, during a period of approximately 4 hours our webisite experienced some very heavy latency issues. The culprit of the latency was a log file that went over its limit, which made the web server generate far too many errors than it was capable of handling. This made the server stall too often and grind to a halt.

However, we have since found the source of the problem, and have created measures to ensure that this type of situation will not happen again. Everyone, please accept our apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused you.

Thank you for your patience.
- Maximo
The CheatHouse Team.

Dear CheatHouse.com users,

Holiday season is comimg up. Its time to celebrate with our family and loved ones. Whether you believe in Christ or not, what matters is that we get to spend some precious time with our family. For a lot of people, this is a period of stress shopping and dealing with not-so-fond family members that show up for Christmas. To those of you, I simply say: forget about the stress. Christmas is NOT about buying presents and getting presents. Its a time for us to think about what its all about. Try to enjoy this period with your family, try to make it something special and positive! If you are one of those who's family is far away, then have a blast, and think about them for a minute with love!

We at CheatHouse.com would like to congratulate you all on your achievements this year. Keep up the hard work. Use our essays to help you make your OWN. Don't cheat, be creative, cite your sources, study hard. After all, we study so hard so that we can have a better future for ourselves.

19,000 Essays and growing!2003-10-06 10:09:03

We are happy to announce that our database reached, over the weekend, a total of over 19,000 essays and school works!

Speaking to Jens over the past months, and after doing some investigation, we were surprised to see how so many essay websites out there advertise as having over 100,000 essays and so on. Its interesting to note how these websites do not have a live, dynamic essay count for users to see. We suspect many of these sites copy essays from other websites, consider small notes as part of their essay count, and generally, are not transparent about their content. As such, we encourage all of you to be a little sceptic about these websites.

CheatHouse.com is not only a pioneer in the industry, but also has been setting the standards in terms of the services that are offered to its clients. It is no wonder we are one of the most popular essay websites on the internet! And we owe it all to you! Thank you so much for all your support! For your comments, ratings and essay submissions! Keep up with the feedback. Our goal is to make this service work to the best of your advantage so as to increase your homework productivity.

Wishing you all a very good Monday and beginning of week!

New chat-box feature2003-10-02 23:48:00

Hello folks!

We are happy to announce the Chat Box Dialogue History page!

Some users requested that we create a feature whereby they would be able to view the chat dialogue earlier on in the day, as some people where posting answers to questions which nobody could read anymore.
We have, thus, added the option at the bottom of the chat box, allowing users to view the last 45 entries in the dialogue.

Please keep up with the feedback!

- Maximo

New search engine features2003-09-17 10:24:48

Hello everyone!

After a lot of user requests, we have fine-tuned the search-engine results page. Up to 25 essays will now be displayed per page on each search result, and a pagination feature to enable users to go through the list of results has been included.

Previously, the site would list all search results. For users without a broadband connection, the page would take a long time to load. Fortunately, we have fixed this now, and in the process, have improved the design for the search results in the hopes of making this a little easier on the eyes.

Please give us feedback, and let us know what you think about the new search features, and how we could improve it! Email support@cheathouse.com.

Take care, and happy studying!

Pagination and Essay count2003-09-15 05:24:11

Hello everyone!

We are glad to announce today that, at long last, we have implemented the pagination feature for browsing through essay listings. From now onwards, every time you click on a category, a maximum of 25 essays will be displayed, after wich you will be required to click on the "next page" to be able to view the remaining essays.

This will not just reduce the load on our system, but will also make pages smaller, thus faster to load for all of you.
We are also very happy to see that we have reached 18,000 essays. It is thanks to users like MasterPupper, Ferret, Robert Kestenbaum, Axis of Evil, pathfinder, superdude, allythegr8 and ccmustangs, not to mention all newer contributors, that make it possible for our website to grow.

Furthermore, we would like to encourage you all to contribute to the community. Rate those essays, and comment them. Don't just rate them. Use the website as a review-system, not just to get your essays rated by other students, but also to help other people out.

Take care, and have a good week!

17,000 essays and growing :)2003-07-06 18:40:56

Last week was marked with the server migration and with the database reaching the 17,000 mark. Although most people are on holidays during this period, we have still managed to reach the 17,000 mark. Our aim for this year was for 20,000 essays but it seems we have surpassed our growth expectations and will be reaching that mark before the end of the year.

We will be giving away a For Life CheatHouse Susbscription to the first 10 customers to submit essays making up the 20,000th essay on the system. When the time gets closer to the 20,000th mark, we will keep you posted on the details.

For now, take care and enjoy your holidays :)

Only known as CheatHouse.com2003-07-05 00:34:26

Back in the early days, in 1995, this site was called "Evil House of Cheat". It was a dumb name then, and it never got much more clever. However, we were lucky that we chose it, since it attracted many visitors so when we had to choose a domain name, we went for "CheatHouse.com".

So far we have always kept the "Formerly known as Evil House of Cheat" in the title, but as of today that has been deleted. Now we are just CheatHouse.com as we figure anyone old enough to remember our old name, is most likely out of school.

CheatHouse.com was down a few hours today. If this unexpected down time caused you any problems, please don't hesitate contacting support. Things should be back to normal already.

Exam cheating turns mobile2003-07-01 13:54:14

In case you have been considering cheating on your exam using SMS messages, then take note.

The idea is that during an exam you send your buddy the questions you have doubts about and get the answer a few minutes later. This article explains how teachers are catching on and that even more high-tech cheating (such as using built-in cameras) is being countered.

Remember that most colleges and universities have very strict measures for students who cheat.

Migration complete!2003-06-30 05:22:34

We are glad to annouce that our server migration has been completed, and thankfully, as predicted, everything has gone smoothly and according to plan.

We are currently implementing a new infrastructure to ensure that our users never experience any downtime, and never experience slowdown in access. Please let us know if you feel the site has improved in speed, or if it has become slower for you.

Now that the migration is over, we will concentrate our efforts back at implementing long wished-for features, such as the ability to change your password through the user menu, the ability to manage your internal messages in a hotmail-like fassion, and so on.

Take care,
Maximo Migliari.

Second phase of migration in progress and bug kill.2003-06-28 02:27:11

We are in the middle transferring CheatHouse.com from one server to another. So far everything looks like it's going smoothly. By our predictions, all changes will have been commited in about 5 days. None of this should affect you.

We also managed to fix a payment bug some of you PayPal'ers had told us about. Our support team were having a had time confirming who had paid and who had not, but everything should be in place. If you still experience any problems with your PayPal please contact support immediately and we will fix it for you.

New article on how to use our essays AND make your teacher proud2003-06-25 05:57:11

Controversial as they may be, essay databases are here to stay. This week CheatHouse.com gives you the low-down on how to use an essay legitimately when writing your own paper.

- Using sources without plagiarizing

As promised earlier we are now delivering new articles more frequently. If you like the articles we post, please add a comment. We would love to hear what we can do better, and what other kind of articles you would like to see in the future.

First phase of migration completed2003-06-22 07:14:02

One of our two new servers has been set up and things are running smoothly. It will still be a few days before all our software has made the transfer, but we are excited to see that execution speed has already been reduced significantly.

The new environment will give us plenty of room to implement the features we have been planning for a long time.

Server migration2003-06-21 11:17:50

Due to heavy load, we are currently migrating our servers to a new newtwork. We will be working with Eicomm, who will be providing us with our rackspace and bandwidth. CheatHouse will then be running off two servers configured with dual Athlon MP processors and in excess of 6 GB of RAM. We are preparing ourselves in advance for the back-to-school season, in expectation of the higher load on our machines.

This will put in place the necessary infrastructure for our future expansion in our service offerings.

Please let us know if you think the site is any faster (or slower) once the migration is done by emailing: support@cheathouse.com

Take care!

More articles and new model essays2003-06-20 05:25:42

We have added two new articles in the last 14 days and we plan to keep up this pace.

The articles are:
- Don't cheat - cite!
- Writing an Essay

We will also be adding a chapter-by-chapter paper on "The Scarlet Letter" shortly - the first of many such papers.

Model essays, articles and book reports.2003-05-26 10:53:53

In our ongoing commitment to better serve our customers and continue adding new services and features, we are launching a new service (free for regular and super users) of model essays and book reports.

Generally students have to write book reports on known famous books such as 1984, Animal Farm, and so on. The objective of this new service is to allow users not just to view how other students have made their essays on those topics, but also to see how a expert would have written an essay on the topic.

Our team of qualified experts will be writing articles, detailed book reports, essays on controversial or highly demanded topics, biografies and so on for each category on our website. Initially we will be releasing a total of 10 a month.

Soon we will provide an interface for our customers to give suggestions for the model essays and book reports.

We will keep you all up to date.

The CheatHouse Team.

15,000 Essays!!2003-05-05 08:09:04

After a lot of hard work from our staff, and due to your generous contributions, we have reached the 15,000 essay mark at CheatHouse.com!

Many of you will notice that there are other sites on the internet that suposedly offer over 50,000 essays, etc. You will see that a lof of these essays are copied from other websites, and that they have no way of confirming to you that they have that many essays.

On CheatHouse.com, we show our statistics for all to see in real time. The ammount of essays that are in our database can be directly confirmed and accessed, and we are making huge efforts to stop users from abusing the system (submiting other people's work as their own, etc).

We thus thank you all for your kind support in helping us create this controversially named digital library. This is an exiting time for us, and we will be offering new services to you all in the future. We will keep you all posted!

The CheatHouse Team.

Report Abuse2003-01-23 01:51:25

It has come to our attention that many submitters simply rip off essays from other sites and submit them as their own. Other submit the same essay twice or just submit nonsense.

We review all essay personally, but some slip through.

Since it is clearly stated that we do not accept this behaviour, we would like your help in finding these unacceptable essays. For this we have added a function - when you view an essay there is a link which says "Report this essay!". If you click you can fill in a report on the essay.

We thank you in advance for the help.

Yet another server upgrade.2002-12-09 12:26:53

"We focus on our clients. Period."

This was CheatHouse.com CEO Jens Schriver's statement when commented about the continued server upgrades and improvements to CheatHouse.com's hardware infrastructure.

"We are in the business of helping people help themselves. People come to CheatHouse because its very time consuming to find source material for writing essays and papers. They cannot afford to wait for slow response times."

According to CheatHouse.com CTO Maximo Migliari, CheatHouse.com has a thorough infrastructure planing for 2003, with other scheduled upgrades to take place along the year.

"Our strategy is to always stay one step ahead and have hardware capacity above that which is required for normal operation. There are days when we get a better listing on a popular search engine, days when a famous newspaper or other media company release an article about CheatHouse - this causes sudden increases in the number of visitors the come to our site. We cannot predict every spike in server load, because of the very nature of the internet, so our plan is always to have redundancy on our systems to prevent any degradation in our services due to load spikes", says Maximo.

"Today we just doubled our processing capacity, and increased physical memory by 33% on all our servers, the entire site is running on memory now - which further increases access speeds to the service".

New dictionary and thesaurus service.2002-11-25 06:49:28

In its continued commitment to offer its customers better services and increased levels of customer satisfaction, CheatHouse.com has launched today a new "service box" called Spell Check. The Spell Check service, in partnership with Dictionary.com, provides users with the ability to verify a word's spelling or synonyms through an easy to use interface.

In the follwing months, CheatHouse.com plans to further increase the levels of customer satisfaction it aims for, by improving several of the utilities and services offered to its students. One such service is the ability for users to manage their internal messages.

"Users will be able to create, delete and rename folders in their internal messaging system, allowing them to organize their messages just like in any other web-based e-mail system." said Maximo Migliari, one of the administrators of CheatHouse.com.

"Our goal is to bring to users attention that they must use our service to their benefit, by citing essays and term papers and doing their own work. We encourage users to use our service as a big idea library, and not to blatantly copy our essays for submission".

9,000 essay mark!2002-11-17 18:10:15

CheatHouse.com today reached the nine thousand essay landmark!

Since 2001, CheatHouse.com has been serving ssays to students in a new essay-serving system completely re-done from the ground up to better serve students. With the contribution of you all, we are nearing the 10,000 essay landmark!

CheatHouse will be acquiring new servers at the end of this year to increase capacity for more essays. We hope to have over 20,000 essays by the end of next year.

Once again, we would like to thank you all for your contributions. Without the help of all our users, this wouldn't be possible.

The CheatHouse.com Team.

Essay conversions complete!2002-11-06 15:23:46

Today marks an important milestone in the development of the CheatHouse.com. The conversion process that reviewed and transfered essays from the old CheatHouse.com system to new, current system is complete!

Approximately a year ago, CheatHouse.com was running an administration system using old technology. In order to improve the services we provide our customers, we created a version 2 system that used the latest web technology.

The objective is to give us headroom to develop new services and improve our current services such as our community, the rating system, the messaging system, and so on. Today, the last essay from the old system was converted to the new system.

Database Servers boosted2002-10-29 15:55:19

We would like to gadly announce that our database servers have been upgraded and boosted with memory. We have increased our server capacities so that we may store up to 5 times as many essays as we can store today. This is due to the planned launch of CheatHouse.com in Portuguese, German and Dutch that will take place early next year.

Important point system change.2002-10-24 06:52:52

After reviewing version 2 of CheatHouse.com since March, we have decided to change the point system quite significantly. The current system is too prone to abuse and is too complicated for many users.

First of all we will from now on only reward points for submitting essays and articles - not from rating, commenting or anything else. There has been too much abuse with rating, and it's too time consuming to review the rating history of every single user.

Secondly, we will change the name of Super and Regular access to FULL and RESTRICTED access. To gain FULL access you can still pay or submit 3 essays, and to get RESTRICTED access you just have to send in one essay.

"Credibility"-points will no longer be used.

We will keep you up to date, but expect a week before all the changes have fallen into place.

Plagiarism debate on WAMU 88.5 FM2002-10-22 13:13:45

CheatHouse.com participated today on the Kojo Nnmamdi show, on WAMU 88.5FM American University Radio. Guests included members of US universities, anti-plagiarism sites, callers, and of course CheatHouse.com

You can hear the interview by clicking on the tape icon for the interview on the WAMU website.

Database servers upgraded2002-10-15 17:32:53

In our continued commitment to maintain the highest levels of speed and acessibility, we have upgraded our database servers. Some of you may have experienced problems accessing our service in the last couple of days. This was due to the upgrade, which was concluded successfully. The system is now working at full efficiency. We would like to apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused some of you.

Danish version up and running!2002-09-27 18:30:01

As promised the Danish version of CheatHouse is now active. Click on the link above the logo (upper left corner). We know this is not relevant to most of you, but for CheatHouse this is the first step in having CheatHouse in many different languages. Next language will be Portoguese.

Enjoy!

We now accept PayPal2002-08-30 10:02:09

Yeps, that's right. You can now pay using PayPal.

Press, fixes and advertising2002-08-25 18:54:43

Since we didn't do an update for a while, here's some news for you. CheatHouse.com will appear in RollingStone magazine and the Washington Post one of these weeks.

We have fixed a bunch of things, like daily updates, a logout problem, fixed some support script bugs, made a proper press kit (click on 'Press' below), started our advertising campaign on some other sites and started preparing for launching CheatHouse.com in another language - Danish. Later other languages will follow.

Next week (some time before friday 30 I suppose) we will send out a press release announcing the new version of CheatHouse.com. Not because it's that new (it went up in March), but because it's ready for the public - tested, tested and tested again.

And finally we have lowered our (pretty high) advertising fees. Check them out if you want to advertise here on CheatHouse.com by click 'Advertising' above.

Switched to dedicated server2002-07-23 11:57:38

We have finally switched the entire site (not just the database) and hopefully you can feel a slight increase in speed.

We know that there are a few problems with the chat and there might be issues with the search engine. These should be resolved momentarily.

Morning Edition on NPL2002-04-05 01:41:06

As a bunch of you heard, we appeared on National Public Radio with Susan Stamberg last tuesday. I would like to thank Susan for portraying what I said and meant accuratly. Anyway, because of the sudden influx in users, we had to complete the planned upgrade of our serversm which we managed sufficiently. We are now running 50% of the site on our new dedicated server - and it's smooth :)

Upgrading our servers2002-03-21 16:05:48

Since the launch of the new version of CheatHouse.com, we have been immensely successful, and in order to ensure the site continues to be reliable and fast, we will be upgrading to a superior server. This will likely occur 30 days from now. As we will need time for porting and testing of the current FreeBSD-based system to a RedHat-based system. We will be upgrading to: PIII 866 Mhz 256 MB of RAM 2 x 18 GIG SCSI drives RedHat Linux. We would like all of you to know that we are working as hard as possible to improve our services to you, so that you may have a more pleasant experience here at CheatHouse.com The CheatHouse.com Team.

Bug kill in progress2002-03-18 04:31:52

So how do you like v2 so far? We know that there are some bugs out there, but if you run into a problem (a page that won't load, something that doesn't work), then please report it in the Support Area. Our main problem so far, has been to get MySQL to work under the heavy load. Often we have over 140 simultaneous users online, and with the restrictions we have on our server, that's a bit too much. However, don't despair, we have been looking into other DB options and will be upgrading the next few days.

V2 IS UUUUUPPPPPP!2002-03-11 03:43:04

The pain, the anguish, the frustration, the burden, the responsibility, the horror, the fear, the blood, sweat and tears... it was all worth. Our baby has been set free :) V2 has been launched.

v2 about to launch!2002-03-10 16:23:42

This is it - we are just about to launch. As far as we can tell, on Tuesday 12th of March 2002, www.cheathouse.com will be shut down for several hours, and when it comes back online, it will officially be the new version, everyone will see.

Right now we are working hard reviewing all the essays from the old version. Score at this point. Essays online: 1753. Essays still to review: 5616.

Reviewing these essays sucks. It's boring, it takes time, but it's really important. I don't know how long it will take, but we hired one extra guy to help review essays and even my girlfriend is taking time off to help out :)

-Jens, webmaster

All Shakespeare essays are now online2002-02-05 11:34:12

That's right. It's such a pain converting these essays from the old version to CheatHouse v2, but it seems we are getting there. Anyway, you will find nearly 300 Shakespeare essays under root > Humanities > Literature > European Literature > Authors > Shakespeare. Enjoy! (still 6300 essays to go. Doh!)

Bug squash and launch2002-01-28 12:36:06

More fixes and features: worked on the prototype of a new live help system, fixed login bug on essays, fixed some misleading text, added the submit link page and confirm link, users can change their view settings for essays and more. On top of that we have opened up the beta for the public by putting a temporary link on the main page of CheatHouse.com. If you have followed the news there, you will also have read that we are DONE CODING! Yes, there remains some fixes and a few bugs, but it's good enough to release. Wow.... however, we still need to review over 7000 essays and we need to migrate to the new server. Expect another 2-3 weeks.

List of Dones2002-01-18 11:09:38

More stuff accomplished these last few days: allowed UTF8 essays to be listed on the favs box, in the user menu and on the search properly, put a title on the index (wow, big stuff ;), fixed so you can close the search box in html mode, link back after submitting comments, fix for super users viewing essays, on the site info box, there is now a link to a "Whos online" page and to a list of only the pending essays, when listing essays not in English it says next to the title what language it is, fixed line break bug when admins are reviewing the essays, when searching also display subject matches properly, dont allow user to see send message form, when they view user on themselves, cleaned up support mail for admins.

More more more2002-01-17 09:35:54

We are still working on v2 and if you have followed that site, you can see that. Improvements, we should mention, include chat box, many fixes, instruction videos (look for the little clapboard icon, which says help), more direct links to the support center, possibility of autologin (yes, its safe), cleaned up front page, revised and fixed the point system, wrote the essay submit terms and in the user menu we listed more ways of obtaining points (though, the links there are dead for now).

Download essay as RTF, PDF, PDB and plain text.2001-12-09 12:25:04

This little feature proved much more easy to code, than expected, so now you can download your essay in any of above mentioned formats. If you have any other ideas for formats, then mail us in the Support section.

Update for Beta Testers2001-11-30 09:37:12

People, the fun has begun ;) The first phase the beta test (still in Alpha tests) has begun. For more info, check out the instructions.

Ready for Beta!2001-11-23 09:26:25

This is still an internal message, as the beta team hasn't been released yet to do the testing, but I just feel like announcing that the lynx version is pretty much ready. This are a few things, we will need to look at (I'm not a 100% happy about the essay submission), but now I stuck it all together, and it works :) Enjoy!

More v2 Alpha notes2001-11-20 19:05:34

Before more people join the alpha test, we have to do a few more tweaks to the XSL sheets, so boxes are displayed on all pages. Please hold your testing, until you see boxes on all pages. Thanx team!

CheatHouse v2 Alpha 1 is out!2001-11-02 17:03:55

If you are reading this, it means that the loooong awaited CheatHouse v2 is finally out in an Alpha release. Most likely you have signed up for a test drive, and here it is. Remember to report anything funny you might experience. Enjoy :)
